William Matthew “Matt” Vassy, MD, is a leader in trauma and surgical critical care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. A graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, he completed his residency and fellowship in General and Surgery Critical Care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, Dr. Vassy has guided NGMC’s trauma program through significant growth, expanding its reach across multiple campuses and strengthening its reputation for excellence in acute care.

Dr. Vassy serves as Core Faculty for NGMC’s Graduate Medical Education program, mentoring residents and fellows in trauma and surgical critical care. His teaching role underscores his commitment to advancing medical education and preparing the next generation of physicians.

Beyond his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Vassy has contributed to governance and leadership through service on hospital and professional boards.
